5G00000902 300x300PermeGear makes three different classes of Side-Bi-Side Cells.  The smallest class includes the most common Side-Bi-Side Cells having orifice diameters from 5mm to 15mm. The medium size class has orifice diameters up to 25mm.  The largest class has orifice diameters between 15mm and 60mm.  In all classes of Side-Bi-Side Cells the volumes are dependent on orifice diameter and other factors.

With additional porting, these cells are well suited to iontophoresis work.  They are easily customized with additional porting, amberizing, etc.

When referring to Side-Bi-Side Cells, the word cell means both pieces of glass together. We supply our Side-Bi-Side Cells with stoppers and stir bars for both sides. Side-Bi-Side Cells do not come with Cell Clamps, they must be ordered separately.

After a membrane is placed between the cell halves, the Cell Clamp is placed around them. The adjusting knob is then gently tightened to hold the glass halves and membrane or device together. The assembly is then located over the stirring magnets of an H-Series Stirrer by placing the holes in the clamp over pins on the top of the unit.

There is another variety of Side-Bi-Side Cell known as a Valia-Chien Cell.  It is generally the same as a Side-Bi-Side Cell except that the surfaces of the joint are not the ends of the heating jackets.  The joint is like that of a Franz Cell with the joint’s halves being fused to the heating jackets.  An additional clamp holds the membrane in place. Valia-Chien Cells are available with o-ring, flat ground o-ring, or flat flange joints.

Please note that the wrap around Cell Clamp for a Valia-Chien Cell is not the same as the Cell Clamp for a Side-Bi-Side Cell and that clamps for one variety of cell will not work properly with the other cells. There are also different stirrers for each kind of cell as the center-to-center distance for the stirbars in a Side-Bi-Side Cell is 29mm and the corresponding distance in Valia-Chien Cell is 41mm. For corneal work the Valia-Chien Cell must be used because there is no practical option for a Side-Bi-Side Cell to have a spherical surface.

Also, if the heating jacket of a Side-Bi-Side Cell is removed, the Side-Bi-Side Cell becomes an unjacketed Valia-Chien Cell. This is because the clamping can no longer be done with the wrap around Side-Bi-Side Cell Clamp which uses the heating jackets to hold Side-Bi-Side Cell halves together.  Instead a pinch clamp for flat ground o-ring and o-ring joints, or a horsehoe clamps for flat flange joints, does the clamping.  Therefore, it you ask for a quotation for an unjacketed Side-Bi-Side Cell, you will receive a quotation for an unjacketed Valia-Chien Cell.
