What is the performance of an industrial Rotavapor®?
Depending on the application and the settings, you achieve distillation rates up to 28 liter acetone per hour. With the Rotavapor R-220 SE continuous, large volumes of several hundred liters of solvents a day can be distilled or recycled in an unattended continuous way.
How can I optimize the distillation rate?
The distillation rate is mainly related to the amount of energy that is brought into the product. With a high temperature difference between the bath and the boiling point, the evaporation rate is higher. Helpful for a higher performance are also a fast rotation speed, larger evaporation flask and low cooling temperature.
What kind of customization is available?
BUCHI offers a wide range of accessories. Furthermore there are tailor-made modifications according to your needs. As we operate our own glass-blowing and machine shop we are able to fulfill almost any special request.
When is an EX-proof Rotavapor® recommended?
Some laboratories and production facilities are defined as “explosion proof areas”. In such areas it is mandatory to operate only Ex proof instruments. The BUCHI Rotavapor R-220 EX and R-250 EX are approved to be operated in such EX zones.
An explosion proof instrument is designed to avoid an explosion of the surrounding area (zone).
All types of Rotavapor® are designed for a safe operation in industrial environment.
What Ex protection does BUCHI offer?
The Rotavapor R-220 EX and the R-250 EX comply with the international standards (IEC and CENELEC) as well as the EC directive 94/9 (ATEX 95). Both instruments are designed for Zone 1, group IIC and available in Temperature class T3 and T4.

What is the perfect glass configuration to perform a concentration of my sample?
By concentrating your product the main focus is on speed to ensure the product is not exposed to heat
for a long time.
Common situations during the concentration process:
- Bumping or foaming product
- Uncontrolled concentration to dryness
Recommendation:
- Descending glass assembly to ensure, that not product will accidently end in the receiving flask by bumping or foaming product.
- Optional foam detector
- Level sensor for defined concentration to a specific volume
What is the perfect glass configuration to recycle or purify solvents?
The main focus to recycle or purify solvents is to get the distillate as clean as possible. With a high recovery rate.
Recommendation:
- The design of the descending assembly guarantees a better separation.
- Additional condenser to reduce the emissions of low boiling solvents
- Foam detector for foaming products
- Level sensor to stop at a defined distilled volume
How safe is the industrial Rotavapor® from BUCHI?
Standard safety
- All glass parts of Rotavapor® R-220 SE and R-250 apart from the evaporation flask are coated with a highly robust special plastic coating to ensure the maximum user protection
- Safety cut-off in case of overtemperature to protect you and your product
- Any failures will interrupt the system and set the Rotavapor in the safe mode
